Tomorrow on Wednesday we are so honored to be invited by Ante to speak about our passion for dogs, Welsh Corgi Pembroke and our bobtail breeding.
“Leif-Herman’s involvement in dogs goes back to 1959 when his brother, Knut Sigurd, bought their first dog, a German Shepherd. The brothers were successful in that breed, but Leif-Herman also handled and made up champions in Boxers, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Golden and Labrador Retrievers, Poodles and Whippets.
Knut Sigurd Wilberg had started Kennel Siggen in 1963 and after a few years Leif-Herman was made a co-breeder. Soon the interest shifted to Pembroke Welsh Corgis, the first import from England, Yorken Gallant Knight, ending up as Dog of the Year all breeds in Norway 1968. In 1973 Knut Sigurd joined his new wife’s kennel Kanix and in 1974 Leif Herman’s wife Rita Tilley Wilberg became his co-breeder, their daughter Julie Wilberg Brandvik joining the kennel in 2011.
They have made up more than 170 homebred national champions, and 50 international, and also champions in 32 other countries, many world and section winners, as well as numerous group and Best in Show winners.
The kennel’s most famous dog, Int Ch Siggen’s Hi Fi, who was Dog of the Year all breeds in Norway in 1983, was the first imported Pembroke ever to win a CC in England.
Norway was the first country in the world to introduce the tail docking ban in 1989, and this led to the Siggen’s kennel embarking on a project to breed Pembrokes with natural bob tails. Siggen’s Queen of Spades was BOB at Crufts in 2014 and was the first natural bobtail to do so in modern times.
Leif-Herman have been an FCI judge since 1976 and was passed as an FCI All Breed Judge in 2010, judging countless breed specialties and significant shows such as Crufts and Sydney Royal.”
